Willis Monroe Barbee was born in Hico, Hamilton County, Texas to James Monroe Barbee and Amanda K. Taylor. He stood 5ft. 10in. tall, had blue eyes, brown hair and a light complexion. He was married to Katherine Lenora "Kate" Beal, August 3, 1912, in Sweetwater, Texas. They had three children. In 1900, Willis Barbee, at 12 years of age, was an orphan. Along with one sister, he was living with a family in Fisher County, Texas. In 1910, Willis was working as a grocery clerk in Sweetwater, Texas. He became a peace officer, and enlisted in the Texas Rangers as a REGULAR RANGER from November 11, 1911 until March 25, 1912, serving in Company C. He was discharged due to reduction in force. Willis's next job was that of brand inspector in Sweetwater, Nolan County, Texas. Willis again enlisted in the Texas Rangers as a REGULAR RANGER, from July 14, 1917, through April 30, 1918, in Company C. He was transferred to Company D, September 1, 1917, then to Company M, January 1, 1918, again transfered to Company B April 15, 1918. He resigned by April 30, 1918. In 1930, Willis owned a service station in Tom Green County, Texas. Willis Monroe Barbee died August 8, 1968, in San Angelo, Tom Green County, Texas. He was buried in Cedar Hills Cemetery, Ozona, Crockett County, Texas.
