EARL ACTON Obituary
OZONA - Earl William Acton, 68, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, Dec. 24, 2007, after a brief illness. He was born in Alpine, Texas, Oct. 6, 1939, to Ernest William and Preble Steadman Acton. He grew up in Alpine and Balmorhea and graduated as valedictorian from Toyah High School in 1958. He earned a Bachelor of Science in animal husbandry in 1962 from Sul Ross State University. He served on the Crockett County soil conservation board from 1976 to 2000. He was the second vice-president of the Texas High School Rodeo Association from 1982 to 1996. He served as a National Weather Service recorder for 16 years. He also served on the ASCS board for nine years. He was very involved in cowboy church. He was also a gold-card member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Pamela Jones Acton; twins Marty Acton and wife Day and Bobbie Renfroe and husband Billy Dell; his grandchildren, Aaron and Kelbie Renfroe; mother-in-law Esther Kate Pierce Jones; sister-in-law Shelley Conner and husband TC; nephews Ernest Key and wife Ethel and Tommy Conner; and niece Robin Cambell and husband Jason. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law Ernestine Acton Key and RT Key; father-in-law William Dempster Jones; and sister-in-law Robin Esther Jones. Pallbearers will be TC Conner, Tommy Conner, Kenneth Mauldin, Mike Williams, Gerald Cox, Dickie Rattarree, Greg Hobbs, Erik Parks and Bailey Wheeless. Memorials may be made to West Texas Boys Ranch, Crockett County Museum or Crockett County Library. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26, in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Ozona, Texas.
