Jimmy Gillit, 70, of Ozona, TX, passed away on April 5, 2026, at Shannon Hospital in San Angelo, TX.
He was born on January 30, 1956, to Jack and Muriel Gillit.
Jimmy graduated from Ozona High School in 1974. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps on active duty and in the reserves.
Jimmy served the people of Crockett County as Chief Jailer and Deputy Sheriff for over twenty years.
His hobbies included tennis, shooting, fishing, camping, and taking care of his dogs.
His parents preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Kim Gillit; his sons, Jeffery (Kristen) Gillit and Stephen (Melanie) Gillit; and his daughter, Ashley (Gabriel) Arredondo. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Simon, Jensen, Emilie, Blake, Evan, and Isaac.
He is survived by his sisters-in-law, Elaina (Terry) McElwain and Suzette (Tommy) McCandless; nieces Amber and Sara; nephews Timothy and Stephen; and cousins Paul (Shelley) Stroope, William Stroope, Becky Cerda, Debra Voories, Kathy Kemp, Karen Dailey, Randy (Pat) Gillit, Susan McCool, and Paula Gillit.
He also leaves behind his dear friend, Ronnie Jones, and the many friends he grew up with and worked alongside throughout his life.
Viewing will be held Thursday, April 9, 2026, at Preddy Funeral Home in Ozona. A graveside service will be held Friday, April 10, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
