Elizabeth Applewhite died Feb. 21, 2005 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease. Funeral services were held Feb. 23 at Ozona Methodist Church. Burial was at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
She was born Sept. 22, 1920 in San Angelo, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Steve Coose of Juno and later Ozona. She was reared and educated in Ozona and graduated from Draughon's Business College in San Antonio. While in school, she worked as secretary of Ozona Public Schools. She worked for Crockett County Water Control for 38 ½ years in an office shared by Bright Baggett's Insurance Agency whom she worked for as well. Mrs. Applewhite was active in her community. She was married to Charles Applewhite on March 14, 1946. After retirement, the couple worked as Helping Hands Volunteers, delivering Meals on Wheels.
She was known for her love of life, her positive attitude and her love of the Lord. She was a devout member of the Ozona Methodist Church.
Mrs. Applewhite was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Johnny Childress; a grandson, George Austin Preston; her parents, Modenia and Steve Coose and a sister, Jo Nell Corder. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Richard Preston; a son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Shelley Applewhite; a daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Kip Nichols; grandchildren, Trey and Hunter Preston, Clifford and Emily Nichols, Derek Nichols, Randy Moore and Shannon Moore, Amberlie Applewhite, John Clayton and Megan Childress and Courtney Childress; great-grandchildren, Charles Russell Childress and John Cole Childress; a sister, Willa V. Baggett; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Gene and Alex Applewhite, Billie and wife Mae Applewhite; several nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friend Dorothy Friend.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
