OZONA David Joe Bean, 44, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, at his home in Ozona after a lengthy illness.

He was born Dec. 4, 1956, in San Angelo to Joe and Marolyn Bean. After graduating from Ozona High School and attending Angelo State University, David married Helen Bunger, June 23, 1977. They made their home in Ozona, where they hold various ranching interests.

Funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21, in the First Baptist Church of Ozona with burial in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Preddy Funeral Home.

David was an Eagle Scout, member of Texas Agriculture Lifetime Leadership (TALL), past president of Region II High School Rodeo Association, director of American Junior Rodeo Association, director of the Southwest Cattle Raisers, director of Ozona Wool & Mohair, president of Texas High School Rodeo Association, member of First Baptist Church of Ozona and served on the Crockett County school board for 12 years.

To most of the kids and friends of the rodeo arena, David was known as Big Dave. He loved kids from all over, and they loved him. He always had an extra seat in the pickup or slot in his trailer for a kid needing a ride for himself or his horse. While enjoying watching his
own kids participate in their various activities, David was supportive of all youth and family functions. He was a loving husband and father and a faithful friend.

David was preceded in death by a brother, Dan Bean. He is survived by his wife, Helen Bean; children, Wesley Bean, Ryan Bean and Kimberly Bean; his parents, Joe and Marolyn Bean; a brother and sister-in-law, Douglas and Tina Bean; a brother-in-law and wife, Louis and Tammy Bunger; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, George and Wanda Bunger; nieces, Alexandra Bean and Kristin Bunger; a nephew, G.L. Bunger; and his grandmother, Vada Bean.

Pallbearers will be John Clayton Childress, John L. Henderson, Marcus Sims, Wade Richardson, Jim Skeham, Randy Crawford, Terry Crawford and Rick Hunnicutt. Honorary pallbearers will be Ross Crawford, Rusty Bishop, Bryan Skeham, Stephen Tarr, Cade Clark, Chase Clark, G.L. Bunger, Hayse Worthington, Trey Hale, Cole Wadsworth and Cody Hunnicutt.
