R.L. Brown, 88, passed away Friday, February 11, 2011, in Midland. He was born June 8, 1922 in Roby, Texas to Ralph and Valene Brown. He married Maxine O'Neal on March 6, 1944 and they were married 60 years. She preceded him in death on November 19, 2004. R.L. graduated from Newman High School in Sweetwater, Texas before joining the United States Air Force in 1942. During his 22-year career, he & Maxine lived in Washington, Texas, Ohio, New Mexico, California & Nebraska. While in the service, R.L. received several honors and towards the end of his career, he was a radio operator on the B-52 SAC Operation Looking Glass at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska. After retiring from the Air Force, R.L. became a dispatcher for the Texas Department of Public Safety and worked for the state for over 20 years. This career also involved several moves before moving to Ozona in 1971 and staying put for 28 years. R.L. spent most of his leisure time on the golf course, playing 42, working in his yard or reading. He was a life-long Baptist and a long-time member of the Ozona Masonic Lodge. R.L. is survived by his daughters Joyce Hambleton and Teresa Krisa and her husband Ken, all of Midland, grandchildren Merle Hambleton, Regina Schweinebraten and Timothy Hambleton, Larry and Freddie Brown, and Lauren, David and Sarah Krisa. He is also survived by great-grandchildren, Breanne and Balicia Hambleton, Billy and George Schweinebraten, and Ashley Rogozinski. He was preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Valene, his wife, Rama Maxine, his son, Larry Glenn Brown and his brother Charles Brown. R.L. will be at Nalley-Pickle Funeral Home February 13 & 14. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 16th at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Ozona, Texas. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
