SAN ANGELO - Charles K. Black of San Angelo, Texas, passed away Thursday, May 17, 2007, in a local care center due to complications from cancer.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 20, in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Ozona, Texas. Prior to the service, visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon at Preddy Funeral Home.

An only child, he was born in Ozona, Texas, to Cotton (Inez Rogers) and Kay Black, who preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Myla Heath Henderson Black of San Angelo; and close family members Bob and Diana McShan of Brady, Gary and Peggy Black of San Angelo, Ed Black of San Angelo, Lucille Russell of San Angelo, Helen, Cove and Schel West of Carmel, Calif., Meriam and Johnny Shelton of Christoval, Jared and Annette Cook of Gainesville, Chelsea Cook of Bronte, Erica Scott of San Angelo, Corey Driscoll of San Angelo, Alan, Jonelle and Shelby Adelhardt of Rotan, Dr. Marcus Henderson of Roxboro, N.C., and Bud Henderson of Boulder, Colo.

Charlie was ranch-raised in Ozona, Texas, and graduated from Sul Ross University with graduate studies at Texas Tech. Earning many conservation awards, he retired from the USDA Soil Conservation Service in 1989 after 30 years in order to enjoy his stock farm and ranch business in Rotan, Texas.

The legacy of Charlie's life is "Strongly value every true friend," and "Always remember the good times." His life was simple, direct and honest. As result, he touched many families and gathered so many friends over his lifetime that pallbearers will not be chosen; it would be impossible to list all of those whom he admired as "true blue." Therefore all of his friends are honorary pallbearers.

Memorials can be made to West Texas Boys Ranch, 10223 Boys Ranch Road, San Angelo, TX 76904-9989; or to a favorite charity.

The family and friends of Charlie would like especially to thank Dr. James E. Melott, Dr. Emmette Flynn, all of the extraordinary personnel at Legend Oaks Nursing Care Center plus those from VistaCare Hospice for their wonderful care and personal attention during the past two months.
