Charlie Applewhite, 85 of Ozona, died Nov. 30, 2002 in Ozona. Graveside services were held Dec. 3 in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Mr. Applewhite was born on Onion Creek near Austin on Nov. 4, 1917, the son of Isaac and Velma Applewhite.
His school days were spent in Eden and Paint Rock. He graduated from Paint Rock High School and attended San Marcos State College before enlisting in the Army where he served as a Signal Corps sergeant in Africa, Italy, Sicily and England during World War II.
He was married to Elizabeth Coose of Ozona on March 14, 1946.
Mr. Applewhite was a partner of the Ozona Butane Company for 40 years. After his retirement, he and Lib were Helping Hands volunteers and delivered Meals on Wheels. He loved to fish on the Devil's River where he and Lib had a lease and was an avid reader.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Johnny Childress; a grandson, George Austin Preston and a brother, Jack Applewhite.
